Lepasa’s Bafana Absence Explained

Zakhele Lepasa’s absence from Bafana Bafana for the trip to the Ivory Coast has been explained by the camp.

Lepasa, who featured as a substitute against eSwatini on Friday, did not make the journey to West Africa and now the South African camp has given the reasons.

Speaking to SAFA media, team doctor Thabo Maleka said that a knee injury is why the Orlando Pirates striker left the camp.

“ Lepasa is struggling with a left knee overuse injury, which could have been exacerbated again, by the recent games and also training,” Maleka explained to media officer Romy Titus.

“And on the eve of travelling, the injury became worse and therefore necessitated that he does get some investigation to actually find the degree or severity of injury in order to inform treatment.”

Maleka went on to say the player had already returned to his club’s medical department.

“He is already in the care of the medical team, they have already started necessary treatment that is needed for that particular injury that he’s having. And that is why he’s not with us today.”
