Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has given thanks to his teammates, technical team and fans after scoring the winning goal in the 2025 Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates.
Maart netted the late stunner with his weaker left foot after Gaston Sirino and Evidence Makgopa had found the goals in the opening half for either side.
Amakhosi were well worth their victory, creating the better of the chances of the day and it was none other then their skipper, who has come under enormous criticism from supporters to score the winner.
“Firstly we say, Alhamdulillah to the almighty and for my teammates, technical team and supporters who always stand behind us, through difficult times, but we couldn’t do it without our supporters without our teammates, with spirit, one love, one character and i’m grateful,” Maart said on SuperSport TV.
“Yeah, I’m both footed at the end of the day, it didn’t matter [how the ball] came, I just put my eyes on the ball and just said bismillah and just kicked it, and yeah, goal!”
Maart was clearly emotional as he won the Man of the Match award shortly after the final whistle and reflected on the journey, to their first trophy in ten years.
“We know the results has not gone our way in the league but I think today we were a collective as a team, we fought together, technical team, players all had the right mindset, the supporters had the right mindset also,” he added.
“I just wanna say thank you to them for always coming out and supporters us at least we go with something home, for them, for the Chairman, for us as players, to have this on our name – like I say, Khosi!”
