Mamelodi Sundowns wing-back Terrence Mashego says he has no regrets about joining the club and is looking forward to writing more chapters of history.
Mashego, 27, joined Sundowns from Cape Town City after last season had started despite strong interest from Kaizer Chiefs.
While he sought to return to his hometown club, having been born in Mamelodi, things haven’t been rosy as injuries curtailed his rapid progress which saw him in Bafana Bafana.
But the marauding defender feels excited about the future and is adamant he made the right call as he battles out with Abdelmonem Boutouil and Aubrey Modiba for a berth in the starting line-up.
“Life is good, I joined Sundowns, a few months down the line I was a league champion, and now six months down the line I’m an AFL champion, so far so good,” Mashego said.
“Last season was a difficult period I suffered injuries, even at Cape Town City I was out with a knee injury then coming to Sundowns with a groin injury, so last season it wasn’t good but this season I’m now free from injury just waiting for my time.
“I wouldn’t say that’s the case [having regrets], I still have a chance, there are about 10 games remaining, so I’ll say there’s still a chance and I’ll say there are no regrets, honestly speaking,” Mashego said.
“It’s a conversation I had with my dad, I don’t want to retire as a player who just played football, I want to retire with titles and look back at achievements, that’s why I joined Sundowns, so there’s no regret.”
Mashego, who burst to the scene at TS Galaxy when the club was playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, has featured 18 times for the club since his arrival from the Citizens, as he replaced Lyle Lakay in Rulani Mokwena’s squad.
