Mokwena On Lorch, Esquivel Debuts

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has opened up on the debuts of their two high-profile January signings.

Thembinkosi Lorch, 30, made his Sundowns debut against his former club Pirates, whom he made a shock deadline day transfer from.

It was a rather subdued display from the playmaker and Sundowns in general with the midfield crowded centrally where the home side usually find their joy.

In what was a heated affair with fouls and rash challenges flying from both sides, Mokwena shared his views on the two debutants at Loftus Verfeld.

“We can all do better, starting with [myself] and with the new signings, they can do better, and it’s difficult, I know and understand,” Mokwena said when asked by iDiski Times of his assessment of the debutants.

“With Lorch, the pressure, the talks, his former club, all the other things don’t help for him and Matias still needs to adapt to the league, the intensity, the way we want to play.

“So that’s difficult for him and the language doesn’t make it easier but okay we can all get better, we can all improve. The first person who can improve is me, number one.”

Sundowns remain 10 points clear at the summit of the top flight with two games in hand over second-placed Cape Town City.
