Kaizer Chiefs’ last minor chances of catching Mamelodi Sundowns ended with a defeat in their catch-up match with Golden Arrows, but the main talking point of the match was Njabulo Ngcobo.
The Defender of the Season was handed a second successive start by Arthur Zwane but didn’t really repay the faith.
First, he was at fault for Arrows equaliser, giving away the ball poorly before Zwane opted on replacing him with Daniel Cardoso after another mistake.
Ngcobo then snubbed Dillon Sheppard’s handshake as he walked off the pitch, which caused goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter to grab the defender but the duo was quickly separated before matters got worse.
So unnecessary from Ngcobo, very disappointed in him. 💔🚮 #Amakhosi4Life @KaizerChiefs #Amakhosi4Life https://t.co/wb6Q4O1m8Y pic.twitter.com/uWwexPdBs4

The match was one of Chiefs’ two rescheduled fixture after the Glamour Boys were unable to honour them due to a serious Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena in December.
SAFA arbitration ordered the games to be played – a decision which the Premier Soccer League are still fighting in court, with the hearing set for 10 May.
The first real chance of the match fell to Khama Billiat, whose shot from the inside area went past the far-post of the goal in the 12th minute.
Chiefs opened the scoring five minutes later after a fine counter attack found Leonardo Castro in space before setting up Khama Billiat, who converted from inside the box.
Arrows had their first shot at target in the 29th minute, when Magawana tested Brandon Petersen but the Chiefs goalkeeper easily saved the attempt.
Sibiya set up Knox Mutizwa on the edge of the box just before the break but the striker didn’t hit the ball properly and his shot missed the goal.
Arrows equalised in the 59th minute when Njabulo Ngcobo lost the ball to substitute to Siboniso Conco, who then calmly slotted the ball past Petersen.
Saziso Magawana almost completed the turn-around a minute later after Ngcobo again lost the ball but his shot went past the far post.
Gumede then handed Arrows a late winner after heading in Sibiya’s cross from a free-kick in the 86th minute, completing their turn-around.
The defeat left Chiefs in fourth place on 39 points, one behind Cape Town City, who play Mamelodi Sundowns later today. With just five games left to play, Chiefs also cannot catch log leaders Sundowns anymore.
