Confirmed: Queiroz Returns To Iran

Former Bafana Bafana and Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz will be reappointed as head coach of Iran and will lead them into the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Iran qualified for the World Cup under Dragan Skocic, but the Croatian was relieved of his duties following the reappointment of Mehdi Taj as president of the Iran Football Federation.

Taj had stated during his campaign that it was his intention to re-appoint Queiroz as manager of Iran if he was to be elected. The Portuguese coach is Iran’s longest-serving manager having led from 2011 to 2019.

Queiroz led Iran to the 2014 and 2018 World Cups and was in charge of 97 games overall during his first stint, winning 60, drawing 24 and losing just 14.

On Wednesday, Iran’s media officer confirmed that Queiroz will take over as new head coach.

Meanwhile, iDiski Times has it on good authority that Queiroz’s long-term assistant Roger De Sa is expected to be part of Iran’s coaching stuff, but his appointment is yet to be confirmed.

De Sa have been available since vacating their roles at Egypt after losing in the AFCON final to Senegal and missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing to the same opponents in the final round of qualifiers. Both the final and the qualifiers were lost via penalty shootouts.
