Patosi On Pirates and Chiefs Speculation

Former Cape Town City playmaker Ayanda Patosi has opened up on rumours linking him with a move to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs previously.

The South Africa international, who spent six seasons in Europe, in the Belgium top-flight with Lokeren before joining The Citizens in 2017, didn’t hide the fact that he’s found it challenging to be away from home.

Currently with Persian Gulf Pro side Foolad Khuzestan in Iran, the talented midfielder, whose contract expires in July, opened up about the critics he received when he was linked with Pirates and Chiefs and insisted he’d be open to return to the DStv Premiership.

“There are offers, which I can’t tell you now. But the team I’m with is happy with me and I’m also happy,” Patosi confirmed to iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco on Zibonele FM.

“You know when you play outside the country there are times when you think of home, there’s a lot of stress, also your family is not close. Even the country I’m in to doesn’t give them freedom. There was a time I wanted to come back.

“There were rumours of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates being interested in me, but I never followed up. After that everything went quiet. But I think they went quiet because there are people that were badmouthing me and I don’t want to go deep into it. But I know someone talked bad about me.

“There was no official offer from Chiefs or Pirates. All I know is someone badmouthed me and I know who’s that person.

“There are two teams I grew up wanting to play for: Pirates and Chiefs, So I would love to play for one of them. Even now I haven’t decided if I will stay here or not. I’m open to a move. I’m open to any PSL team, only if they beat the offer that I’m being offered [here].”

Patosi has led his side to the last-16 of the Asian Champions League and is also aiming to finish inside the top five in the league.

The former FC Baniyas midfielder has 26 appearances in all competitions and managed to find the back of the net six times along with four assists.
