Pirates Into CAFCL Group Stage For The First Time Since 2018/19

Orlando Pirates secured their place in the group stages of the CAF Champions League after a 3-0 aggregate win over Jwaneng Galaxy.

Taking a 2-0 lead from their 1st leg in Gaborone last week, it appeared that Pirates were looking to play without taking many risks in the opening half.

Jwaneng showed the pedigree and experience in the competition, holding the home side man for man but without testing Sipho Chaine that much.

But in the icy cold weather of Soweto, which went below four degrees, not many players were impressed on the evening, none more so than new signing Gilberto who struggled to adapt to the wet conditions under the lights at eSgodini.

Monnapule Saleng netted another 90th-minute goal in a rather dire game at Orlando Stadium as Pirates exterminated the nightmare of last season when Galaxy beat them on penalties at the same stage of the competition on the same field.

They joined CR Belouizdad, Maniema Union, Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly as the first teams in the group stage of the 2024/25 campaign.
