Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has refused to entertain their transfer deadline day plans while calling for more transparency in the market.
Sundowns have been linked with late moves for Oswin Appollis and Jayden Adams from Polokwane City and Stellenbosch respectively but it appears likely that neither will be joining the club before the midnight deadline.
However, Sipho Mbule loan move to Sekhukhune United looks set to be among the last couple of exits in a busy window for Masandawana in terms of outgoings.
“The issue of transfers, we have enough players and I would really not want to talk about what is most likely to happen, I think I will be taking away what the management is responsible for in this club,” he said ahead of their game against Mbabane Swallows.
“So I will to move away from the issue of what’s going to happen in the last day of the window. But if Lionel Messi can want to come this side, then why not guys? Why not.”
With Sundowns record transfer being revealed this week of Arthur Sales, in a R62-million deal with SK Lommel via Transfer Room, it’s been a hotly debated topic amongst fans and media over their recent transfer strategy.
Marcelo Allende, Tashreeq Matthews, Matias Esquivel, Kobamelo Kodisang and Sales deals took their spending in recent years to fell over R200-million, and Mngqithi suggests it being public knowledge, is good for the game in South Africa.
“The issue of transfers, personally I’m not someone who likes secrecy, I’m that type of person because I don’t think it helps much, when you’re trying to conceal the truth and it comes out,” he explained.
“Probably that’s where a lot of damage happens, but if you are honest and up front about everything when it comes to transfers, as it is all over the world, we don’t have to answer, because at least the answers are already there.
“But I know it can cause issues in the changing room, but the fact is, it’s why I start talking to players when they feel differently, I always say in football you have an opportunity, when you have to sign your own contract, do the best you can to get what you think you deserve.
“And when don’t fight at that time, if Tapelo fights and gets what he deserves, if he says 5c is good for you, and he says I want R2, you can’t say Tapelo deserves R2 if I’m on 5c – but I wouldn’t really wanna get deeper into that. But the truth is, in this issue of contracts, there’s money spent on players, I wouldn’t want it to be hidden.
“I would want things to be open to know who is earning what, in what club, it will help other players who are cheated somewhere, where you find some players in the PSL earning R5000 or R10000, so if this is in the public domain, I think clubs will compete to be at a certain decent level in terms of figures.”
