Mamelodi Sundowns are close to sealing an agreement with highly-rated Lanús midfielder Matías Esquivel.
Esquivel, 24, has been one of the standout players in the Argentine top flight this past season and has attracted interest across South America and Europe.
But Sundowns have now agreed personal terms with the left-footed playmaker who can also feature as a winger or inside forward, in for a lucrative four-year contract.
Reports in Argentina suggest the deal has already been concluded, but iDiski Times understands Sundowns are still in the process of negotiating the transfer fee, with the player holding two more years on his current deal with the club.
He’s likely to replace Erwin Saavedra at Chloorkop, whose future has come under question after several injury setbacks since he arrived from Club Bolivar – while Gaston Sirino has since secured South African citizenship.
Abubeker Nasir has also been linked with a potential loan move away from the club but it remains to be seen what decision is made by the technical team in the coming weeks.
Esquivel has scored seven goals and registered 12 assists for Lanus in 95 games, primarily featuring as a central midfielder in a midfield three.
