Mamelodi Sundowns have made an approach for South Africa international striker Lars Veldwijk.
The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving K-League side FC Suwon, where he was one of the most prolific strikers in South Korea.
However, he terminated his contract via mutual agreement after a run-in with authorities when found driving under the influence in September 2023.
iDiski Times understands Masandwana have tabled an offer for the seven-time capped Bafana Bafana striker who last featured for the country back at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sundowns view him as a potential striker to add a new dimension to their attack and further depth with Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa taking the bulk of the load.
With Veldwijk being able to register as a local, and Abubeker Nasir likely to head out on loan in the current January transfer window – the signing could provide the solutions for the second half of the season.
However, no official agreement has yet been reached with the Brazilian’s and Veldwijk’s representatives.
The former Nottingham Forest striker has scored 154 goals with 60 assists in 382 games at club level throughout his career.
Veldwijk, who qualifies for Bafana due to his South-African born father, was part of Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana squad at the 2019 AFCON and made six appearances off the bench.
