The Kay Motsepe SC Is Back With R11.75m Total Prize Money

The biggest school sports competition in the country is back with over 10,000 schools set to compete in the Kay Motsepe Schools Championship with a total prize money of R11 750 000.

The Kay Motsepe Schools Championship is an annual event that brings together school teams from across South Africa to compete in various sports, fostering youth development, leadership, and community engagement.

Sponsored by Sanlam in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, the championship aims to empower young athletes by providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and cultivate essential life skills.

The media launch of the prestigious events took place on Monday at Sanlam’s office in Sandton to set the stage for school football, netball and musical events.

Founder of the Motsepe Foundation Dr. Patrice Motsepe, co-founder and CEO  Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe and Bongani Madikiza, CEO of Sanlam Retail Mass, shared insights on the property’s goals, objectives, and the profound impact of sports, arts, and culture on young people’s lives.

“The campaign represents far more than just a sporting tournament and a musical competition,” said Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

“It is a beacon of hope and opportunity for our nation’s youth. We are thrilled to be involved in such a spectacle which offers a platform for students to not only showcase their athletic prowess and talent, but also to cultivate essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience.”

Sanlam’s Bongani Madikiza shared this sentiment: “At Sanlam, our purpose is to empower communities to be financially confident, secure and prosperous. Furthermore, we believe in the transformative power of sport.

“Our partnership with the Motsepe Foundation on these initiatives is a testament to our commitment to making a positive impact by helping the youth to develop the necessary skills to set them up for success once they leave the sports field for good.

“Sports, arts, and cultural activities are profound socio-economic catalysts that bring people together and inspire our young people to dream and imagine a bigger life for themselves.”

The event saw sports personalities like Television Presenter Andile Ncube, Former Mamelodi Sundowns Captain Hlompho Kekana, and Former SPAR Proteas player Tshina Mdau, who shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of sports in personal and community development.

The campaign launches shortly before the Eisteddfod National Choir Clash, which will take place from 7- 10 August in Gauteng, the Netball National Finals from 15 – 17 August in North West, and the Football National Finals in October.

The Championship  & Eisteddfod seeks to support the best talents that will surface from these various tournaments, offering young talents the chance to shine on a grand stage.
