Banyana Banyana record player Janine Van Wyk has started her coaching career and joined the technical team of her club JVW FC.
Hollywoodbets Super League side JVW FC have announced some major changes in their technical team ahead of the 2024 season.
Van Wyk, who is the co-founder and former player of the club, has been named as one of the side’s assistant coaches alongside Unathi Mabena. The two will work under head coach Mitch Stevens, according to the club’s website.
Van Wyk retired from domestic football at the end of last season after helping the Blue Diamonds finish third with 63 points. Her 18-year old career includes appearances in two Olympic Games, a FIFA Women’s World Cup and a CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with Banyana Banyana.
In December she bowed out of the international stage as Africa’s all time capped player with a 185 caps after beating Ahmed Hassan record that stood for over a decade.
Van Wyk who has completed a CAF B and UEFA B Coaching Licenses told iDiski Times in December after her last game for South Africa that she was going to explore all her options in retirement.
She said if it was coaching she would start at her club JVW and in the role of assistant coach in the 2024 season.
