Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi was emotional after Saturday’s MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium, calling it “third time lucky” after missing previous two due to injury.
Sibisi previously played two finals at Mabhida but never finished any of them as he got injured. In 2022 against AmaZulu FC, he left the field just five minutes into the game having started.

Last season against Mamelodi Sundowns, he could only play 34 minutes, and he was substituted due to an injury, against Stellenbosch it was his third final and he finally finished the match.
The former Lamontville Golden Arrows defender showed emotions after the final whistle at Mabhida and explained during the press conference that he prayed to play the final and finish it this time around.
“This final means a lot to me, it’s true when they say the third time is lucky,” a visibly emotional Sibisi said.
“I played two finals here and I got injured so today, I woke up and prayed that I play and finish the game.
“I feel very blessed that I was able to play and finish the game. I would like to thank the people I am sitting with for working together and winning the trophy.”
