Zapata Joins New Club After Failed City Spell

Juan Camilo Zapata has returned to Venezuela with CD Hermanos Colmenarez after just one season with Cape Town City.

The 29-year-old arrived in January last year with an immense pedigree as the record signing for the club after netting 19 goals in 35 games for the Liga FUTVE side.

Signed to play as a second striker and add competition for the likes of Khanyisa Mayo up front, Zapata failed to settle into his new surroundings with his family.

And City have opted to cut their losses and allow him to return to South America for half the transfer fee they forked out to secure him.

Zapata scored once with two assists in 23 games and his exit now allows the club to re-register Nathan Idumba Fasika who’s since returned from a long-term injury.

Fasika (DRC), Brice Ambina (Cameroon), Darwin González (Venezuela), Jó Paciência (Angola) and Ramazani Tshimanga (DRC) will now take up their five foreign quota spots.
