Buckley Gives Sundowns Advice Ahead Of Dortmund Clash

Bafana Bafana legend Delron Buckley has earmarked Borussia Dortmund’s defence as not up to standard, which could be an advantage for Mamelodi Sundowns to cause a huge upset.

The Brazilians are the only African team to score and win at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the USA after they beat Ulsan HD 1-0 to move them top of Group F after Dortmund were held to a goalless stalemate against Fluminense.

Speaking to Thabiso Mosia on SABC’s Game On, Buckley, who played for Dortmund between 2005 and 2009 making 50 appearances, provided a glamour of hope that Sundowns could shock his former club.

“Sundowns is the kind of team that has progressed in the past years. The football they’re playing is on a different level,” he said.

“I don’t think there’s another South African club that plays top, attractive football here in South Africa. The way they [Sundowns] play, they can compete in the Bundesliga.

“The downfall on Dortmund is the defence is not up to standard. It’s not up to standard and they need to buy players to make the defence very stable.

“And I think that will be an advantage for Sundowns as well. Sundowns have the quality of players upfront to destroy and craft everything.

“The defenders [Dortmund] don’t know how to deal with South African technique on how we dribble and take on players.”
