Rulani On Missing Out On Facing Pep

Former Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena admits being disappointed at missing out on an opportunity to face his role model Pep Guardiola at the FIFA Club World Cup however he doesn’t believe this is the only opportunity he’ll have.

Mokwena’s former Moroccan side take on Guardiola’s Manchester City side, Juventus and Al Ain in Group and the 38-year-old has been open about how much he looks up to the Spaniard.

He told iDiski Times Digital Editor David Kappel in edition 208 that the 18 June meeting of the sides would have been like a practical exam between student and master. However hopes that the opportunity presents itself again in the future.

“Yeah, it’s a missed opportunity, no question,” Mokwena told iDiski Times.

“But that doesn’t mean this is the last opportunity to try to write the exam. Maybe God is preparing a bigger exam, but of course, with Pep Guardiola now, it would’ve been an opportunity for a great practical exam, with the new Wydad squad, this would have been like a master class at Harvard University.

“I’ve studied his principles for many years, and to test that knowledge would’ve been invaluable and, of course, a great moment. But football, like life, it moves forward, and I’m channelling that disappointment into my next challenge, preparing myself for the next chance while wishing Wydad all the best.”
