After the relatively impressive performances of African teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, we selected our African Team of the Tournament.
It doesn’t surprise that as many as seven Morocco players made the selection after their heroic performances saw the Atlas Lions become the first ever African nation to qualify for the semi-finals.
Morocco went unbeaten in their first five games in Qatar, beating Belgium, Canada, Spain and Portugal, while conceding just one goal.
As a consequence Yassine Bonou was selected in goal, while Achraf Hakimi and Romain Saiss made our defense.
In midfield, Sofyane Armabat and Azzedine Onouhi made our African Team of the Tournament after their impressive performances in shielding the Moroccan backline.
Further upfront Hakim Ziyech and Yusuf En Nesyri, who became the first ever Moroccan player to score in two different World Cups made the selection.
In addition to the seven Morocco players Senegal duo Kalidou Koulibaly and Ismaila Sarr made our team after helping the Lions of Teranga to reach the knockout stages, where they were defeat by England.
Finally, the performances of Cameroon left-back Nouhou Tolo and Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus also impressed our team during the group stages to complete our African team of the World Cup.
