Moroccan Coach Reacts To Historic Win

Moroccan Coach Walid Regragui has reacted to his team’s shock 1-0 victory over Portugal that booked his team’s place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals.

Morocco became the first African team to reach the last four of the World Cup with their stunning win on Saturday.

The French-born Moroccan coach only took over the job 81 days before the World Cup but has also become the first African coach to lead a team to the semi-finals.

Regragui was delighted with the victory.

“We came up against a really great Portugal team,” Regragui was quoted as saying to French broadcaster TF1.

“We’re drawing on all we have, we still have guys injured.

“I told the guys before the match we had to write history for Africa.

“I’m very, very happy.”

Regragui had said they were buoyed on by the support from throughout the African continent.

“We want to show that Africa deserves to be here, that Morocco deserves to be here,”  Regragui told the media in the build-up to the game.

We have a whole people behind us, a whole continent behind us, and the Arab world behind us.

“That is a lot of energy behind us. We’re going to try and do everything we can.

We can do it, we can make history again. It can push us, and help us actually to play with this pressure, and not to make any mistakes.”
