Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni paid tribute to Diego Maradona’s unforgettable goal against England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup as he previewed his side’s blockbuster semi-final clash.

Scaloni was asked about the historic rivalry between the two nations and admitted Maradona’s stunning solo effort remains one of football’s greatest moments.

“I think everyone remembers that game, and Diego’s performance, above all, the second goal, which will remain in all our hearts because it was so beautiful,” Scaloni said.

The Argentina coach believes the goal transcends national rivalries and is cherished by football fans around the world.

“It was a marvellous goal, and any football lover remembers it that way. And it just happened to be against England.”

How to neutralise Kane & Bellingham?

Turning his attention to the upcoming semi-final, Scaloni acknowledged the threat posed by England’s star players, particularly captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham.

“We always look at what we can improve and how we can neutralise these great players in the best way. Maybe we will make a change, but it is also possible that we play the same team,” he continued.

Despite plotting ways to stop England’s biggest stars, Scaloni was full of admiration for both players.

“They are two great players, among the best in the world. Any coach would like to have them,” he added.

Argentina will be aiming to book their place in the FIFA World Cup final, with Scaloni weighing up whether to stick with the side that reached the last four or make changes for one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures
