Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs Leonardo Castro has started the new season in the USA on a high note.
Castro recently extended his stay for another year with USL League One side Greenville Triumph SC after he had an impressive first campaign, netting 13 goals and four assiststo help them reach the playoffs.
The former CAF Champions League winner was subsequently voted as the Greenville Triumph Player of the Year by the coaches and finished as his club’s top goal scorer.
He helped Triumph to qualify for the promotional playoffs, where they lost 3-2 to Charlotte Independence back in October.
The 34-year-old started the new season where he left off in 2023, netting a goal in a 3-0 win against Spokane Velocity.
He was named the Player of the Week, and also included in the Team Of The Week for match day one, while his back-heel goal has been named Goal of the Week.
