Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro has continued his fine form in the United States, netting a brace for his new club Greenville Triumph.
Castro, 34, left Amakhosi as part of their clear out at the end of the 2021/22 season and had initially been without a club for over eight months. But in March, he secured himself a move to Greenville in the US League One (third tier).Â
He has since become the club’s most consistent goalscorer and took his tally to eight in their latest 2-1 win over Tormenta, where he scored both goals.
“Great goals tonight – Leo is just so intelligent in the box and had great finishes on great passes from the guys. I’m very proud,” Greenville coach John Harkes told the club’s website.
It was Greenville’s fifth win over their last six games and the latest three points saw Greenville climb into fourth spot with 28 points from 18 games, which is three points above the playoff cut line.
The brace took Castro’s overall tally to eight goals for the season, while he has also set up four more in 19 appearances.
The club returns to action next Saturday, when they will face third-placed Forward Madison.
