Pitso Al Ahly Miss Out On Title

Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have failed to defend their Egyptian Premier League title on Tuesday evening.

Al Why drew with El Gouna 3-3 in a dramatic encounter and it wasn’t enough to catch their bitter rivals on the log.

Al Ahly fell behind early in the game when El Gouna scored from a powerful header after a corner after seven minutes.

Aliou Dieng came close to equalising for Al Ahly but his header sailed past the past after 15 minutes.

Hussein El-Shahat had an attempt saved by the El Gonna goalkeeper after 24 minutes when it looked like he could make it 1-1.

Al Ahly kept on pushing but failed to find the equaliser before the break. They had their first notable chance in the 55th minute but the El Gonna goalkeeper was once again saving their attempt.

Four minutes later al Ahly received a penalty on VAR review after El Shahat was brought down in the box. Ali Maaloul stepped up to convert the spot-kick and make it 1-1.

Al Ahly thought they had completed the turn-around in the 66th minute but their second goal was ruled out due to offside.

In the 68th minute, though, Al Ahly’s second goal counted as El Shahat made it 2-1, converting a cross from close range.

Mosimane’s side made it 3-1 after 80 minutes when Mohamed Sherif, who made his first game since his injury, completed a perfect counter.

Al Ahly conceded another goal in the 87th minute after Ali Lofti was beaten from a well-placed shot from inside the box. Matters from bad to worse in the 98th minute when El Gouna received a penalty to make a 3-3.

Zamalek, meanwhile, won their game against 17th-placed El Harby 2-0 to build on their advantage on the log with just one game to go.

As a consequence, Zamalek were crowned champions of the Egyptian Premier League for a first time in six years.

Mosimane and Al Ahly, meanwhile, miss out on the title despite going unbeaten in their last 15 league games.
