Pitso: I Know Downs But We’ve Done It Vs Bayern

Pitso Mosimane has insisted he believes in his players to come up with a result against Mamelodi Sundowns after they have done it before against the likes of Bayern Munich.

The South African addressed the media ahead of Saturday’s CAF Champions League first leg in Egypt.

‘Jingles’ also explained that winning your group doesn’t mean you will also win the competition, while pointing out that his team has always looked good in tough encounters.

“I believe in my players’ abilities and they have shown that against tough opponents like Bayern Munich and Palmeiras in the FIFA Club World Cup,” he said.

“They also showed a fantastic performance in our two games against Zamalek in the domestic league, which makes me optimistic.

“My players have the experience needed in these types of games. If we play with Al Ahly spirit like how the team played against Sundowns last year, then I do not have any doubts about my team.

“I know Mamelodi Sundowns very well. They are a strong team and they are contenders for the CAF Champions League title.

“We want to achieve a positive result ahead of the second leg in South Africa.

“If you lead your group, it seems like you are favorites. However, football doesn’t work like that. In football, there are no guarantees.”

Al Ahly have won all of their three home games against Downs in the Champions League so far. Saturday’s game kicks off at 21:00, SA time.

“IT’S NOT US vs PITSO,” Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena told iDiski Times‘ David Kappel and you can read his full exclusive interview, where he also chats about his relationship with Mosimane and how Downs will prepare for Al Ahly, why he admires Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, which advise Jurgen Klopp gave him as well as his dream of coaching in Europe, in this week’s edition – available in English and Zulu.
