Pitso Mosimane has revealed that Zamalek’s assistant coaches insulted him during Al Ahly’s 2-1 victory in the Cairo derby on Sunday.
The ‘Club of the Century’ beat their bitter rivals 2-1 thanks to a brace by Mohamed Sherif to go three points behind Zamalek on the log with three games in hand.
Mosimane, who won his second derby, has remained unbeaten in domestic competitions in Egypt but insisted that he was not impressed with how the opposition coaches conducted themselves on the sidelines.
“I fully appreciate (Zamelek coach) Patrice Carteron and there was no verbal altercation between us during the game,” he said, as per Kingfut.
“However, his assistants insulted me in Portuguese and I understood them and I responded back. We have to become professionals and accept what happens on the pitch.”
‘Jingles’ was also full of praise for his squad before highlighting the performances of goalkeeper Ali Lofti, who saved a penalty, and double goalscorer Sherif.
“We managed to win and control the course of the game, particularly in the first 20 minutes, after we imposed our method and implemented our plan very well,” he added.
“Al Ahly outperformed a strong competitor who has a head coach at a high level of competence, but Al Ahly players had a strong desire to win.
“Ali Lotfi is the man of the match in my opinion. I strongly trust all of my players.
“Al Ahly missed many important individuals such as Ali Maaloul, Mohamed Hany, Hamdi Fathi, Mahmoud Wahid and others, but according to the squad we have, we succeeded in achieving the victory and clinching the three points.
“I am happy with Mohamed Sherif, whether with Al Ahly or the Egyptian national team, and he always aims to lead the team to achieve victories at all levels, but I am not an American to look only on his stats.”
