Pitso’s Al Ahly Collect Important Win
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly collected an important victory to keep the title race in Egypt open, with just two games to go.
Al Ahly started the game on fire and had their first good chance after just three minutes but Afsha’s volley from close range was saved by the Masry goalkeeper.
Mosimane’s men found the opener when Salah Mohsen converted a powerful header following a inch-perfect cross by Al Maaloul.
Mohamed Shenawy was forced into action in the 20th minute, denying Masry the equaliser after pushing a deflected shot past the post.
The hosts did find an equaliser in the 29th minute when Omar Kamal first went past a defender inside the box before covering from close range.
Al Ahly, though, managed to take the lead again in the 36th minutes thanks to a header by Taher Mohamed.
Masry pounced back in the first half still, with Ahmed Reffaat converting a spot kick that was given after VAR review following a foul on the edge of the box.
Al Ahly still managed to take a lead into the break thanks to Hussein El-Shahat scoring from a tight angle.
The second half could not keep up with the high pace of the first interval and Al Ahly had the first real opportunity in the 68th minute when El-Shahat tried an audacious lob over the keeper but it was saved.
Al Ahly did score their fourth goal in the 80th minute when El-Shahat set up Kahraba. They could’ve added a fifth but Mohamed Many only the post in the 84th minute.
The victory saw Al Ahly move to 72 points on the log, but they remained four behind Zamalek, who came from behind to beat Ceramica Cleopatra 2-1.
