Potter On Tau
Brighton Hove Albion coach Graham Potter says there is “nothing to report” on Percy Tau as the South African is seemingly awaiting his move to Al Ahly.
Tau was included in Hugo Broos’ latest South Africa squad but missed his side’s last two games due to “personal reasons”, at least that’s the official line of his coach.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly but the club are yet to announce the deal.
It is claimed that Brighton and Al Ahly agreed on a €1.8 million fee for Tau, who has just a year left on his contract.
Reports in Egypt say Al Ahly are trying to wait until their current season ends before confirming their new signings, leaving Tau a bit in a limbo until 27 August, when they will have their final league game.
Potter, meanwhile, has confirmed their is no change in Tau’s situation, once again confirming there is interest in the winger.
“Nothing to report. There has been interest but nothing further to announce,” he said during his pre-match press conference ahead of home game against Watford.
Tau was not in the squad for Brighton’s Premier League opener against Burnley and could once again follow Saturday’s game from the stands.
There was hope that Tau could stay with Brighton for the 2021/22 season after the club registered the former Mamelodi Sundowns player, but it seems he will leave before the window closes.
