Pitso’s Man Run Riot In Egypt
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly ran riot against Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday evening, thrashing their opponents 4-0.
Al Ahly had a first good opportunity to score when Taher Mohamed’s shot was saved by the Smouha goalkeeper.
Hussein El-Shahat was the next Al Ahly star who missed a golden opportunity after putting the ball over the bar in the 11th minute.
Mohamed Sherif hit the cross bar with a header in the 17th minute as Al Ahly’s dominance continued.
The visitors had the ball in the back of the net when El-Shahat acrobatically scored from a bicycle kick but he was ruled offside in the build-up following VAR review.
Smouha managed to release some of the pressure in the 37th minute when they had consecutive corners but Al Ahly’s managed to clear.
Al Ahly finally opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Sherif managed to put the ball past the Smouha keeper following a nice one-two with Taher Mohamed.
El-Shahat doubled Al Ahly’s lead with a great volley past the keeper just a minute later and things even turned better when Ali Maaloul made 3-0 from the spot in the 44th minute.
Smouha almost pulled one back on the brink of half-time but Mahmoud El Badry’s attempt following a free-kick went past the post.
Pitso Mosimane opted to rest his first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who hardly touched the ball in the first half, and replaced him with Aly Lofti at the break.
His men, though, continued their dominance, with Hamdi Fathi hitting the bar in the 53rd minute. Sherif scored Al Ahly’s fourth in 58th minute after a great assist by Maaloul.
Al Ahly dominated proceedings for the rest of the match, with Mosimane being able to give some of his key players some rest.
The victory saw Al Ahly move back into second with 45 points from 21 games. They sit 16 points behind leaders Zamalek, who have six games in hand.
