Doctor Khumalo Receives Major Honour

Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has received an honorary doctorate degree from the Tshwane University of Technology on Thursday.

Khumalo has been one of the standout names in South African football history – and was part of the Bafana squad that won the 1995 Africa Cup of Nations.

It was also Khumalo who scored the first Bafana goal after readmission in 1992, and represented South Africa at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Known for his tidy ball control and dribbling skills, Khumalo became a legend at Amakhosi, winning multiple accolades. Nowadays, he works mainly as football analyst and he was now rewarded for his contributions to South Africa by the Tshwane University of Technology.

“The Tshwane University of Technology is proud to officially confer upon Theophilus Doctor Khumalo an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Science (Kinesiology and Coaching Science) through the Faculty of Science,” TUT stated.

“Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in South African history, Dr Khumalo is also a highly accomplished coach, talent scout, and respected football analyst.

“This honorary doctorate celebrates his extraordinary journey, honours his exceptional talent, and recognises his immense contribution to South African football, as well as his unwavering commitment to developing and inspiring the next generation of soccer stars.
