Dr Danny Jordaan has been re-elected as president of the South African Football Association, beating challenger Sandile Zungu at the elective congress on Saturday.
Jordaan was first elected as president in 2013 and will now remain at the helm of the association until 2030.

He won Saturday’s election with 157 votes, while challenger Zungu only received 82 votes.
Zungu, the president of AmaZulu Football Club, had expressed his confidence at beating the incumbent in the build-up, but Jordaan has once again reigned supreme.
Coming to these elections, a total of 52 regions, 10 associate members, the special member National Soccer League, and 41 NEC members were expected to vote, but three regions, namely Amajuba in KwaZulu-Natal, Sarah Baartman in the Eastern Cape, and Pixley Ka Seme in the Northern Cape were disqualified from voting, as per SABC.
Jordaan, who had stated after his previous re-election in 2022 that he would not stand again, will now stay SAFA president at least until 2030.
Under his guidance, SAFA have made progress on the pitch, with Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana both making the knockout stages of a FIFA World Cup for the first time.
In addition, Banyana won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, while Bafana reached third place at the 2025 AFCON. Also in 2025, Amajita won their first ever U20 AFCON title.
However, Jordaan’s reign has been overshadowed by corruptions allegations, money laundering accusations, and continuous bonus-payment rows between the senior national teams and the association, while poor preparations for tournaments, especially at youth level have also hindered the overall progress of football in South Africa.
