Defending champions Cape Town Spurs will take on Grassy Park United in an all-Cape final at the Bayhill Premier Cup 2023 on Monday afternoon at Athlone Stadium.
Spurs reached the final after beating Stellenbosch 2-0 in the last eight, before a tight encounter against Cape Town City in the semi-finals, where they came out 2-1 victors.
Last season Spurs beat Stellenbosch in the final, under then-coach Duncan Crowie, who is now the national U17 coach – Andrew Herman is the coach this time around.
Grassy Park, meanwhile, won a hard-fought battle against Hellenic in the quarter-finals, a 2-1 result that needed extra-time, before a tight 1-0 victory over SuperSport United in the last four.
The question is whether the surprise package can upset Spurs, and are able to stop the Urban Warriors’ top goalscorer Luke Baartman, who has lit up the tournament with some excellent performances.
The final will be played at 3pm at Athlone, with the Plate and Mid-Section finals kicking off at 10:30 and 11:45 respectively.
The match will also be streamed live on the SuperSport Schools app.
