Stellenbosch U18 were crowned Engen Champs Of Champs in Gauteng after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 5-4 in a penalty shootout in the final.
Following an impressive campaign in the Engen Knockout Challenge in Cape Town and winning the tournament, Stellies went out to represent Western Cape in the Engen Champs Of Champs which is played by the all the provincial Engen champions.
The Young Maroons emerged victorious from the final following a 1-1 (5-4) penalty shootout win over Sundowns and claimed the tournament’s prestigious honours for the first time.
Young Langelihle Phili, who already won the Engen Knockout Challenge in Kwa-Zulu Natal with AmaZulu and a month later won it with Stellies, was named the Player of the Tournament and the Striker of the Tournament.
After conceding two goals the entire tournament Connor de Vries walked away with the Goalkeeper of the Tournament accolade. Jean-Pierre Farrugia was named coach of the tournament after leading his side to triumph.
