Affonso Returns To Uruguay

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Mauricio Affonso has returned home, and has been unveiled by a club in Uruguay.

The 29-year-old’s time in South Africa was disappointing, as his progress was often hampered by injury, and he featured in just 11 league games in two seasons for the DStv Premiership champions, scoring once. Overall he featured in 22 games in all competitions, scoring six times.

“Welcome to the ‘Darsenero’, Maurico! Affonso is the new addition of River Plate for this 2021 “, the club posted on their social media platforms.

Affonso’s future at Sundowns became doubtful when the club brought in Pavol Safranko this season, and now his next destination has been confirmed.
