Stellenbosch Head Coach Steve Barker says the club is facing an important run of matches coming up, if they want to challenge for a top eight spot in the DStv Premiership.
Barker was speaking after the 2-2 draw away against Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday. Stellenbosch are currently in 12th spot on 22 points, four points behind 8th placed TS Galaxy.
Barker says that while they are taking it one game at a time, there is a batch of games coming up that will be key to where they finish this season.
They are next in action on Friday when they host high-flying AmaZulu.
“I think, we do look at it one game at a time,” Barker told the media after the Chiefs game.
“I think one can’t get too far ahead and look, but there is crucial games coming up starting on Friday against AmaZulu.”
“And then we play four matches in the space of sort of 14 days, against Maritzburg, Bloem Celtic, Leopards, the teams that you rightly say,who are in and around us.”
“So ja, that’s going to be crucial periods. But I’m confident that we’re going into these matches of the back of laying a really good foundation in our previous five matches.”
“But yeah, those are going to be really important matches for us to to win, to get maximum points. So looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”
“But ja, one game at a time, but there are batches of games that we’re going to have to really compete really well and do well.”
