Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has tried to explain what could have led Keagan Dolly being a bit off the pace in their 4-1 defeat against Royal AM on Saturday.
Dolly was replaced by Kgaugelo Sekgota in the 75th minute after failing to have a real impact on the game.
The 28-year-old is one of Amakhosi’s new signings but couldn’t prevent his new side from collecting just four points from their first four games.
“I think Keagan has done better in previous games than he did tonight,” Baxter said when asked by iDiski Times about Dolly’s performance.
“He showed his quality in flashes at times, but he didn’t show it as consistently as he has done in the previous games.
“But I think when you’ve been out for a long time like Keagan, I think it’s not unnatural and it’s quite normal that to get back you push, you push and then when you are back you sort of breathe out a little bit.
“Keagan may have had that little breathing out tonight. He’s got to regroup and he’s got to reassess himself.
“I don’t think he was bad but I just thought he was a little bit off the pace of his best. Showed some flashes of his quality which is undoubted, he can affect the game a lot more.”
Dolly has made five appearances for Chiefs this season so far, starting the last three but has only collected one assist.
