GladAfrica Championship Round-Up
Despite drawing Platinum City Rovers remained top of the GladAfrica Championship after the weekend’s results, while fellow newly-promoted side Hungry Lions moved into second place.
It was a weekend of good results for the travellers, with Hungry Lions being the only team to win at home.
On Friday there were good away wins for third-placed Uthongathi and eighth-placed Black Leopards.
Francis Baloyi scored the winner for Uthongathi in a 1-0 win over Cape Town Spurs, while Leopards won 2-0 against Richards Bay, with Tiklas Thutlwa and Lethabo Mathaba on the scoresheet.
On Saturday there were two goalless draws as log leaders City Rovers were held at home by Tshakhuma, while TS Sporting and AmaTuks also played to stalemate.
But Hungry Lions were 2-1 victors over struggling 15th-placed Jomo Cosmos, Stanley Muishond scoring a brace for the Northern Cape side, while Cape Town All Stars, in their first match since Roger De Sa left to join the Egyptian national team coaching staff, won 1-0 away at JDR stars.
There was another goalless draw on Sunday as Venda Football Academy and Polokwane City couldn’t be separated, but Moeketsi Sekola’s solitary goal gave Free State Stars a 1-0 victory away to bottom-placed Pretoria Callies.
A full round of fixtures is scheduled for mid-week with four games being played on Tuesday, and four on Wednesday.
