Broos Explains Ngcobo Snub
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he opted to cut Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo from his final squad fort he upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The reigning DStv Premiership Player of the Season was included in the initial 31-man squad but was cut from Broos’ final selection for the qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana.
Broos explained that Ngcobo’s cut had nothing to do with his quality but he opted for other names this time around.
“I’m not saying that he will not be there the next time. I have to choose, we had 31 players the first time and I have to choose,” he said on SABC Sport.
“Sometimes it is a tactical choice, sometime it is a choice that you need a certain type of defender and that’s what happened with Ngcobo.
“But again, I know he is a good defender and he will get his chance with Bafana in the next month.
“This is my first selection, so I made a choice. Maybe after Ghana, I will say to myself, maybe this one and this one I shouldn’t have selected. First choice is always first choice, but again this is not my final choice.”
The other players that were cut from the Broos’ initial squad are:
Sifiso Mlungwana (Golden Arrows)
Mosa Lebusa (Sundowns, injured)
Innocent Maela (Orlando Pirates)
Njabulo Ngcobo (Kaizer Chiefs)
Kobamelo Kodisang (Braga B)
Sphelele Mkhulise (Sundowns)
Sphephelo Sithole (Belenenses, COVID)
Siyethemba Sithebe (AmaZulu)
