Comitis – AmaZulu Didn’t Take The Option
Cape Town City Chairman John Comitis says that AmaZulu missed the opportunity to take the option on Zuki Kewuti, and the utility player will return to Cape Town after his loan spell.
Comitis was responding to a question whether Kewuti would stay at Usuthu when the season comes to an end, and that Benni McCarthy had said he was hoping to keep him.
Comitis says that there was an option in the loan deal for AmaZulu to purchase Kewuti, but they would have had to respond by the end of April, and there was no communication from the Durban club.
“Let me confirm, in fact, I don’t think Benni knew the facts of the deal,” Comitis said at a press conference.
“There’s a preset transfer amount in the loan agreement, they could exercise it at the end of April, if I’m not mistaken, and they didn’t take the option.
“So it was in their hands, and I can tell you, it was extremely reasonable. So that was reported incorrectly.
“They had the option, they could keep him and they let the option expire without any response.
“It wasn’t in our hands at that point. Now we’re happy to have him back. So we will see him for preseason.”
