Major League Soccer outfit Minnesota United have expressed interest in signing Bafana Bafana forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane ahead of their new season.
The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the DStv Premiership since being promoted from the reserve team in the 2018/19 season with his performances crucial to their survival in the top-flight.
He’s since become a regular fixture in their starting line-up and his immense potential caught the eye of Bafana head coach Hugo Broos where he’s played in every fixture since his appointment.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and a club in Germany have reportedly been tracking his development over the past 12 months but iDiski Times has learnt that the MLS side has made contact with the Team of Choice.
Minnesota already have two Africans on their books in the form of Mali international defender Bakaye Dibassy and Romain Métanire of Madagascar and has identified Hlongwane as a potential addition for the campaign that starts in February.
Despite the growing interest club chairman Farook Kadodia has reiterated that the player is not for sale due to his importance to the first team.
It remains to be seen whether United will be willing to part ways with their forward in the January window due to their precarious league position at the mid-way stage of the campaign which has left head coach Ernst Middendorp’s future increasingly uncertain.
