Frustrated Benni Hints At AmaZulu Overhaul
AmaZulu head coach has lashed out at his team after a ‘frustrating draw against Kaizer Chiefs and suggested that an overhaul might be needed before they become ‘the next Swallows’.
Usuthu drew their seventh game of the season in just their 12th match, with both sides ending the game with 10 men at the FNB Stadium.
Bongi Ntuli’s 77th-minute strike secured the point after Keagan Buchanan’s first-half own goal but McCarthy was left to rue their lack of urgency.
“It’s becoming very frustrating for me, but I commend the team. Two games in a row you come from behind and there’s not much I can do,” he said after the game via SuperSport TV.
“You do what you are supposed to do on the training pitch and then you expect okay, the players are gonna show something and step up.
“But then you get these dismal performances, Stellenbosch, the same. You throw away three points, the same today – it was our game to lose, you go a man up and we looked like we were nowhere but fortunately we got a goal.
“You take a point and what more can you do? Just continue working and hopefully, the club decides the team can do with a reshuffle because we need new faces in the team.
“This way [if] we continue to have this type of performances, these kinds of games. Keep picking up one point, one point, one point, one point – then we become the new Swallows.”
