Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has weighed in on SAFA’s search for a new Bafana Bafana coach.
With Hugo Broos’ five-year tenure officially having ended on Friday, SAFA are preparing to appoint a new tactician to lead the national team, with the announcement set for this coming Saturday.
Hunt believes maintaining Bafana’s recent progress will hinge on who is tasked with selecting the next coach and, ultimately, who gets the job.
“It all depends on who they appoint, you know. That’s the first thing,” said Hunt.
“And also, who’s appointing people? That’s the first problem, isn’t it?
“I’ve been in three interviews, and I’ve seen the people that interview. So, good luck…”
Reports indicate that a number of coaches, including local candidates, have applied for the vacant Bafana position, with Pitso Mosimane among the names strongly linked to the role.
‘Why should I apply’
When asked whether he had submitted an application, Hunt questioned why he would need to apply, insisting that the national team coach should be headhunted rather than apply for the position.
“Why should you apply? They should be [headhunting]. Exactly, exactly,” he responded.
