McCarthy – We Put Some More Pressure On Everybody Else
AmaZulu Head Coach Benni McCarthy was very happy with how his team performed in the 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy on Saturday, that saw Usuthu return to second-place in the DStv Premiership.
They are now just three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, though Sundowns do still have two games in hand.
McCarthy says it was a very good to see his team dominate the home game, and keep the pressure on those in the title race.
“TS Galaxy, three more points for us, ja, I’m very delighted, very happy with the performance, the attitude from the players,” McCarthy told the club’s media department.
“I think the way we handled ourselves, we started the game really well, we didn’t wait to see what opposition will bring at us, because when we are at home, we try and be clinical, we try and be direct and we try to take the fight to anybody.”
“So you know, we were we were slightly a bit disappointed with our last home game playing Mamelodi Sundowns where we didn’t get the three points. So we said today is a game where we need to lift ourselves up, the game came three days after Sundowns, so this is a perfect way to bounce back, with the three points.”
“We put some more pressure on everybody else, you know, Golden Arrows, who had overtaken us, Mamelodi Sundowns, so ja, we wanted to just put the minds right put the mentality right, because we’ve got two very difficult games coming up.”
“So if we collect three home points, it will count in our favor, but very happy with overall performance from every single player, the starting 11 and the ones who came off the bench who made a difference. So ja, the game went according to plan. So I’m just very happy with that performance.”
Next up for second-placed AmaZulu is an intriguing clash against McCarthy’s former team Cape Town City, who are now sixth on the table after three successive wins.
