Mokoena – Why I Joined Downs

New Mamelodi Sundowns signing, Teboho Mokoena, who was also linked with Kaizer Chiefs and RSC Anderlecht, has revealed why he joined the DStv Premiership champions.

The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal which includes an option to be extended by an additional year after leaving SuperSport United for an undisclosed fee.

Mokoena says he opted to join Masandawana because he wants to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet and compete in the CAF Champions League.

“I want to take this time to show appreciation, I am very proud of this achievement and I’m also happy with the decision that I made to join Mamelodi Sundowns,” he told his new club

“As the saying goes, ‘The home of Champions’, I was also born a winner and I want to see myself winning the league, competing in the CAF Champions League as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and just winning trophies.”

Mokoena had also been in talks with Kaizer Chiefs, as the club confirmed, while Belgian giants Anderlecht also made a late attempt to lure him to Europe.

However, the Bafana midfielder insisted it was an “easy decision” to pick Sundowns because of their dominance in South Africa and their potential in CAF competitions.

“Personally I am proud of this milestone in my career, to move from SuperSport United to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“It was an easy decision for me to make because this club showed interest in me and it was also a club that I had hoped to play for.

“I like their style of play, the way in which they are dominating the league and on the international stage as well.”
