Mokwena Impressed By Baxter’s Nurkovic Switch
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena was impressed with Stuart Baxter’s switch of Samir Nurkovic to the left wing for Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
Amakhosi lost 2-0 to Masandawana, however, Mokwena praised coach Baxter and his interesting tactical setup of his front-three.
Baxter used Nurkovic as a left-winger instead of being a target man, with Khama Billiat coming more through the middle and Keagan Dolly playing on the right.
“The transitional style of play that coach Stuart comes up with, I think in my personal opinion that having him (Nurkovic) on the left and particularly when you look at the schemes that they use with Khama running in behind him (makes sense),” Mokwena told reporters.
“And even sometimes trying to build from the back because all the goalkeepers are right-footed and only today they had (Austin) Dube as left-footed centre-back, but predominantly they have their right-footed centre-halves and then it’s easier to get out of pressure with a diagonal ball to the left from the right foot.
“And then to get possibilities on transition when they develop the play from the second ball, he is the right profile to have that scheme.
“I think there’s a lot of intelligence and a lot of wisdom in the approach and for me as a coach it makes only sense when I watch them, and it becomes very difficult to deal with them.”
