Rulani On Alleged Downs Fall Out

Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has responded to reports there was a fallout between the Masandawana coaches.

A report in Soccer Laduma claimed that the three Downs coaches, Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela “aren’t seeing eye to eye”, citing reliable sources close to the club.

Mokwena did acknowledge there was some sort of incident between the Downs coaches, pointing out that Manqoba Mngqithi apologised, but insisted it was blown out of proportion and was very upset that there is a mole inside the club.

“I read the article, and I was expecting the question already, you know, and ja, it’s a difficult one to answer,” Mokwena said in response to a question about the story.

“You know, it’s a bit difficult. Not to come across as trying not to be honest, but at the same time also to try to protect the club, we’ve got a very, very big game on the weekend, our focus and our energies must be on that.

“But also in the corner of my brain there’s also the importance of clarifying some of the things and it’s a pity, because sometimes some of the things that come out, come out and you’re like, oh my goodness, how did this get out?

“And for me, that that is probably the biggest problem, is having a mole and having people that report certain things into the media, we should not have people in our club that go about that sort of behavior, that should not be allowed, because in any organization, in any household ,and whenever there’s any relations, of course, there’s going to be one or two squabbles and disagreements.

“And this should not be blown out of proportion. But you know, I get disappointed personally in my own personal capacity.

“I get disappointed when I’m on the other side and maybe this question, to be honest with you, should be given to coach Manqoba because what was reported in the media, there is an element of truth to it, but for me, the coach apologised and we move on and we focus on what’s important for Mamelodi Sundowns and that’s it, so I’ve got nothing more to say about it.”
