There were goals galore as four DSTV Premiership games were played on Tuesday night, with Mamelodi Sundowns winning against TS Galaxy to cement their place at the top of the table.
There were also wins for Cape Town City over Stellenbosch in the Cape derby, SuperSport United added to Kaizer Chiefs’ woes, while Swallows did the same to Maritzburg United. Swallows remain two points behind the leaders in the second place.
Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 TS Galaxy
While there was a lot of talk about whether this match should go ahead or not after the passing of Motjeka Madisha, Sundowns did their talking on the pitch as they comfortably won 2-0.
Peter Shalulile gave Sundowns the lead in the 32nd minute, as he was played in wonderfully by Themba Zwane. Shalulile raced onto Zwane’s back heel pass before beating Wenston Van der Linde with a powerful shot.
It was a deserved lead for the home team, who had done most of the attacking through the first half.
Zwane scored his 7th goal of the season, to double the lead in the 75th minute, as he and Lebohang Maboe combined well in the build up.
Dennis Onyango saved a penalty just before full-time, denying Ebrahim Seedat, and keeping a clean sheet. The penalty awarded after Brian Onyango had handballed in the box.
Stellenbosch FC 1-2 Cape Town City
It was a tough Cape derby, but Cape Town City walked away with bragging rights with a good 2-1 victory.
Thabo Nodada gave City the lead in the 21st minute when he combined well with Mdu Mdantsane before unleashing a fantastic effort from outside the box, Lee Langeveldt well beaten in the Stellenbosch goal.
City were 2-0 up in the 29th minute when Craig Martin showed his speed to intercept a ball in front of a diving Langeveldt, and finish it off.
Nathan Sinkala scored a consolation goal for the home team in stoppage time.
SuperSport 2-1 United Kaizer Chiefs
SuperSport picked up the victory, a 2-1 win as Chiefs struggles continue.
Bradley Grobler gave SuperSport United the lead just before halftime, as Sipho Mbule pounced on a loose pass from Itumeleng Khune and fed the striker. It was just SuperSport’s second shot on target, as Kaizer Chiefs rued many missed opportunities in a first half they dominated.
SuperSport were 2-0 up in the 53rd minute when Mbule blasted in, after Grobler turned provider smartly.
It got more difficult for Chiefs in the 65th minute when Philani Zulu was shown a red card for a foul on Gamphani Lungu.
But Chiefs did pull one back through Lebogang Manyama, scoring from the spot in the 89th minute after Dumsani Zuma was brought down in the box.
Swallows FC 2-0 Maritzburg United
Swallows maintained their good start to the season with a solid 2-0 win over struggling Maritzburg.
Ruzaigh Gamildien gave Swallows the lead in the 36th minute, Gamildien scoring from the spot after he was fouled in the box.
It was 2-0 in the 67th minute as Gamildien got his brace to double the lead.
