Mammila Sets Target For Baroka’s Betway Prem Return

Baroka FC head coach Morgan Mammila says winning 20 matches is all it will take to return the team back to the Betway Premiership ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Bakgaga have been campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship since being relegated three seasons ago, and had a chance for topflight return but fell short in the PSL promotion playoffs.

The new season kicks of this coming weekend, and club chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has given his coaching staff a mandate to clinch the title and get straight promotion.

Mammila wants to do better than his predecessors and reckons 20 games will do the trick.

“My plan is to win 20 games only,” Mammila told iDiski Times.

“I just need 20 games and 60 points then you are number one. My target is to win 20 matches it’s just easy like that.

“Remember as a coach it’s easy when you go to a team, you will look at how many wins they achieved. They achieved 12. If you are a coach, you must be better than the previous coach. So, I need to win at least a minimum of 15 but the target for me is 20.”

The Limpopo side unveiled 11 players at their season launch on Saturday in Lebowakgomo that included veteran striker Siphelele Mthembu and a returning quartet of Collins Makgaka, Bonginkosi Makume, Olaleng Shaku and Abdi Banda.

Mammilla added the experience will be important for his mission.

“I think they are better players than when they left here,” added the former Chippa United mentor.

“I think that will add a positive on this team because if the previous team can take this team to the playoffs why can’t we put 13 points more from those ones then it’s straight forward promotion.”

Baroka open their new league account with a home fixture against Orbit College on Sunday, August 25.
