Marumo Star Confirms Future

Marumo Gallants midfielder Edgar Manaka says the fact that they have been relegated to the Motsepe Championship hasn’t sunk in yet.

Gallants had a rollercoaster season reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Confederations Cup but went down automatically on the final day of the season after losing 2-0 to Swallows.

The 34-year-old played nine league matches two Nedbank Cup and eight in the Confederation Cup. Bahlabane ba ntwa have seen most of their players leaving the club but Manaka says he is staying.

“I’m contracted to the club and whenever we resume for pre-season, I’ll be there. We are one team, we are one family. We go down together we come back together,” Manaka told iDiski Times.

“Marumo is a great club. We had our highs we had our lows and like you said it was a rollercoaster but we have learned that in football there are no therefore. We never saw it coming.

“It could have happened to anyone else. Football is a game of numbers we didn’t get enough points to survive but we did well and I’m so proud of that group. We represented South Africa well on the continent and we showed what we are made of.

“It was a fantastic feeling travelling around knowing that we had nothing to lose. We went there as underdogs and we reached the highest we could have reached. Tough luck but we did our best until the last day.”

Manaka has racked up over 150 appearances in the top flight during stints with Black Leopards, Platinum Stars, Golden Arrows, Polokwane City and TTM, which status was acquired by Gallants.
