After this weekend’s fixtures, Polokwane City moved two points clear at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
In the five games played on Saturday, there were four draws, as two of those challenging for the top were held.
Cape Town Spurs’ good run of wins came to an end, as a controversial late penalty saw Hungry Lions grab a 1-1 draw in Kimberley. The visitors were livid with the officiating on the day, that also saw Lions miss an earlier penalty, and a number of questionable off-side calls. But with Polokwane City only playing on Sunday, the point was enough to take Spurs top temporarily.
Third-placed Casric Stars missed an opportunity to make up ground on the two leaders as they drew 0-0 at home against Clinton Larsen’s Magesi.
It ended 1-1 between All Stars and Platinum City Rovers, and it was the same scoreline between Baroka and La Masia.
In the only game that didn’t end as a draw on Saturday, JDR Stars, who had at one time looked like a team pushing for promotion, suffered a 3-1 home loss to Uthongathi.
On Sunday Polokwane City returned to the top of the table after beating Tshakhuma 2-0 in Bloemfontein. Tshakhuma remain 15th, in the relegation zone, five points behind their next opponent.
Black Leopards’ woes continued, and they remain stuck at the bottom of the table after losing 2-1 to Pretoria Callies. Leopards are four points behind TTM.
Meanwhile, it ended 1-1 between AmaTuks and 14th-placed Venda Football Academy.
