SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt admits that he could start next season with a new-look team, which is concerning.
Siphesihle Ndlovu, Grant Margeman, Thabang Sibanyoni, Zakhele Lepasa are all likely to leave the club if SuperSport don’t agree to sign them permanently while Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, is set to join Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer.
Ricardo Goss will have one more season left on his original two-year loan deal while some of the emerging talents within the club will undoubtedly attract interest locally and abroad with Thapelo Maseko and Keagan Johannes the picks of the bunch.
“Next season? Yes, we could be decimated so it’s another rebuild, you have people going back to Sundowns, it’s a major problem,” Hunt admitted.
“It’s something I’m tackling every day but obviously I’m trying to just get… from the nine games, go game to game. But it’s something we’re tackling every day, it’s a real concern.
“If you look at the team, it will be very thin.”
Hunt went on to state that the foreign market and wheeling and dealing is challenging despite managing to produce a squad currently occupying second place behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
“It’s all good and well when you bring foreign players, it’s difficult because you are here [in South Africa], I prefer to go see them there and then bring them. Rather than bringing them, looking, and then saying no,” Hunt explained.
“It’s very difficult because if players are out of contract, are they really good enough? You know what I’m saying, to what we’re looking for, it’s an ongoing thing. The most important thing as a football club is to look after the squad.
“Not too old, not too young, the right balance, who’s coming, who’s going. The future in football is now but always have one eye on what’s happening – so for me, it’s a big concern [losing players at the end of the season].”
